"Truly fantastic. Very informative, very interesting, and very fun!"

Freedom runs in the DNA of Amsterdam. Free trade turned this former swamp into the centre of a vast trading empire. Freethinking inspired philosophers and artists like Rembrandt to produce their finest works here. Liberalism influenced the city’s architecture with unique canal houses in all shapes and sizes. Freedom continues to shape modern day Amsterdam with its liberal attitudes towards sex and drugs and welcoming alternative lifestyles.

On this unique, in-depth free walking tour of Amsterdam you learn how freedom and tolerance shaped the city and its people throughout the ages and understand how these values continue to shape the city today.

Get ready for some sassy stories with the perfect mix of information and entertainment, covering history, modern life, and unique personal stories you won’t hear anywhere else to help you understand the essence of Amsterdam and Dutch culture. Supported by pictures, maps and paintings that bring history back to life!

  • 5 star ratingFreeDam Tour As soon as we arrived in Amsterdam we took part in a walking tour with FreeDam Tours. It was the PERFECT thing to do upon arrival. We were able to become acclimated with the area and learned so much history along the way. Mike was our tour guide on Mon 9/23 and he was personable, knowledgeable and exudes much passion for the city. I highly recommend this tour. Wear COMFY walking shoes.

5 star ratingAwesome walking tour Our guide Bram presented us both the must-see and insider tips about Amsterdam, all of this in a very lively and friendly 2h tour. This is a totally different experience than walking alone inside the city!

  • 5 star ratingFreedom Walking tour It was my first trip to Amsterdam. Finding a free walking tour online, I booked, my partner totally skeptical. (The company works on a tips basis.)

This tour was the best introduction to Amsterdam that we could have expected.
Knowledge, compassion and insight of the city and it’s people were shared with us in a sensitive, humorous way.
Thank you Toby. You gave us a peak into the soul of this city. We, a group of 20, hung on your every word.

5 star ratingBEST Tour in Amsterdam!!! This was the BEST tour my husband and I took on our two week honeymoon in Europe! Our guide Sergio, the owner of FreeDam Tours was an enthusiastic, energetic, passionate, extremely knowledgeable and entertaining guide who provided us with a fantastic 3 hour walking tour of Amsterdam, filled with information not only about the sights but the history, the culture, the architecture and everything about Amsterdam that makes it what it is today. His talk was delivered through fascinating stories and a wonderful sense of humour, We learned so much in those 3 fun-filled hours. The tours are limited to 20 people which is a manageable size for 1 guide without the use of headphones. After attending some walking tours with 40+ people to one guide it was refreshing to find a tour company that is committed to providing a high quality tour that the entire group could hear and enjoy! While technically free/tips only, at the end of the tour you are more than happy to tip generously for this value filled tour! I would highly recommend this tour to everyone visiting Amsterdam. Thanks Sergio for the great lunch recommendation of the De Bakkerswinkel at 69 Warmoesstratt. We enjoyed a delicious reasonably priced lunch there after the tour.

5 star ratingLovely tour by Joy Jeunink It was great to have found Joy to guide through the historic lanes of Amsterdam and explain everything in detail. She has lot of patience to answer every question in detail. Her knowledgeof the city and Dutch history is very impressive. And the best part, as the name suggests - she is always smiling.
    You can't made it better.
    All the best to her.
